Rory McIlroy opened the PGA Championship with a 74.
Round 2: a bogey-free 67.
The 67 grabs the headline. The number I’d circle is the zero in the bogey column, no dropped shots, recovering from a 74, a cut to make. Not a hot round. Control.
He’s +1 for the championship, comfortably inside the projected +4 cut, into the weekend with hopes still alive.
Aronimink, a 1928 Donald Ross design, is the kind of second-shot test that rewards ball-strikers.
